HAZY--Our Air and Space Partnership Finale--Gone Bad

by Aaron

The trip we took on May 14th, 2009 was very disappointing. The first problem came when we found out there were not enough buses, so the seating became extremely crowded.

We didn't get far before we hit the next road block (no pun intended). While our bus was in front of the Museum of the American Indian, police pulled our bus driver, Ms. Brown, over. Suddenly the police boarded our bus and told us to evacuate the vehicle. So, while a large group of men searched our bus extensively, we (groups 1, 2, 3) hung out in a large circular area outside the entrance of the museum.

Although I only thought it would be quick 10 minute thing, we ended up waiting in that area for oer an hour. By the time 11 o'clock neared, I suspected the trip was going to be cancelled. Finally, Ms. Jenkins gave the announcement I was expecting and we were told we were going to Union Station and then the Postal Museum. After that announcement, we still waited around 30 minutes before heading to Union Station.

We spent 40 minutes in Union Station, and then walked back to Stuart-Hobson. I guess we didn't have time to go to the Postal Museum.

Overall, I was disappointed we couldn't visit the Hazy Center, but I'm glad we didn't spend 2+ hours on unsafe buses.

I really enjoyed our "lack" of a field trip last Thursday. Maybe that's just because the whole 8th grade class was out of the classroom, and really enjoying each other's company. The police officers did their annual bus check. They also gave us some disappointing news, such as "your bus did not meet qualifications. It would be very unsafe to continue on to your destination." Such a bummer. So, as an alternative, we sat outside of a museum, talked, took pictures, etc. and eventually went to Union Station. What a day. What a day. [We should try it again another time. lol]

The partnership with Air and Space Museum gave us a chance to go out and learn new things outside of school. Even though we never made it to Hazy the other trips were fun and enjoyable. Something that would have made it better is being able to explore the museum more.

Our field trip to the Hazy Air and Space Museum sounded too good to be true. We were supposed to have free McDonald's and go to an amazing museum. My dad went and he said he liked it and planned to bring me. Well, now we have some more father-son time since we never went. our bus was pulled over and it failed inspection so we were stranded. That's a bit of an exaggeration. We could easily walk back. But I was starving! I had no money. Luckily my friend Haley was coming from Walls and she brought me avocado rolls "Best field trip ever!"
